Account Policies

A GIS-RS Center Account user is solely responsible for all files created by the user and must maintain appropriate backups. The GIS lab is not responsible for any lost data caused by natural disaster, errors, system failures, expiration of account periods, or hacking activities. Workstations cannot be locked to reserve space. A GIS-RS Center account holder cannot give an assigned user name and password to another person or log anyone else into a GIS-RS Center account with that assigned name and password.  

A GIS-RS Center account holder cannot engage in the following activities:

1. use of GIS Lab resources for profit-making endeavors. (Note: Lawsuits may follow as a result of using educational licenses for profit-making or other types of commercial activities.)

2. watching pornographic content, playing computer games, downloading music, participating in chat rooms or any other computer usage not related to GIS-RS Center activities.

3. hacking computer networks.

All FIU and Library Computer User Rules apply also to the GIS-RS Center Accounts. Violations of any of the above will result in the immediate loss of the user account and disciplinary action as outlined in the University Technology Services (UTS) Code of Computing Practice.
